Integrity
“The quality of being honest and having strong moral principles.”
At New Era, having Integrity means that we are honest about who we are and what we do. Integrity makes no excuses, its only interest is authenticity. Integrity leads us towards Discipline.
Discipline
“A branch of knowledge”; “To train oneself to do something in a controlled or habitual way”
At New Era, Discipline means utilizing Integrity to work hard and practice perfection without cutting corners, cheating, or giving up on oneself or one’s teammates.
Perserverance
“Persistence in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success”
At New Era, Perseverance means never giving up on one’s self, one’s goals, or one’s teammates despite the challenges one faces; it leads us towards Respect.
Respect
“A feeling of deep admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements”
At New Era, Respect is both the ultimate foundation as well as the most desired goal and takes two forms.
Little “r” respect is given to all others from New Era participants, regardless of how respect is or isn’t reciprocated. This respect is recognized in the way we treat humans: with grace, understanding, care, and humanity.
Big “R” Respect is earned through developing court credit. At New Era, we strive to lose as well as we win, and leave the court respected by our opponents, parents, teammates, and fans for our gameplay, teamwork, and tenacity.
Leadership
“To inspire and guide others in achieving a common goal through influence and trust”
At New Era, our ultimate goal is to create leaders for a world yet to come. We believe that Leadership does not exist without Integrity, Discipline, Perseverance, and Respect. Leaders know and cheer for those they lead, put the needs of the team above their own glory, and uplift the humans around them.
Love for the Game
Love for the Game is the foundation for athletic development. At New Era, we understand that losing is equally as important as winning, as failure teaches us far more lessons than success does. As such, we know that the Game must be well understood — what, how, and why are the questions that get answered while developing Love for the Game. We play for the sake of playing, and we’re more likely to succeed when we remember that fun is needed for any game worth participating in.
Honor the Court
Every time we step onto the court, we Honor the Court. This means that we are aware that the time we have for skill development is limited and should be used well; we recognize that the other humans who are on the court are also there to learn, messing around takes time away from them; we work hard so we can play hard; we do not tarnish the court with negative attitudes; challenges and failures are the only way we grow.
Team Mentality
Team sports require Team Mentality: everyone has jobs on the court, when one job is done, another job begins; when everyone does their job, the team succeeds. Volleyball requires teamwork more than any other sport, therefore we make opportunities for our team rather than glory for ourselves. We support each other during the hardship of the game, don’t give up on our teammates, and understand that everyone’s learning impacts everyone else positively.
